Emma Lou Freeman Mobley, a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister passed away peacefully on May 25, 2025, at the age of 77 in St. Luke's Anderson, Easton, Pennsylvania. Born on November 3, 1947, in Savannah, Georgia, and relocated to Newark New Jersey in 1968. Emma embraced life with an unwavering spirit and a compassionate heart.
Emma was the beloved daughter of James Freeman and Lula Mitchell Freeman, both of whom predeceased her. She was also predeceased by her devoted husband, Van Mobley, and 11 siblings, leaving a legacy of love and resilience in their absence. Emma is survived by her children, who will forever cherish her memory: Jenelle Freeman-Moore (Kenith), Vonetta Davis-Andrews (Alex), and Mary Davis. She leaves behind a remarkable lineage of grandchildren, including Marcell Davis, Dwayne Young Jr., Jenaiya Lawrence, Paige Davis-Reeder, Qualea Davis, Mya Davis-Hammond, and Mavrick Davis-Hammond, as well as five adored great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind special friends from her building, S.E Shull Brenda, Shirley, and Dorothy.
Emma attended Albert E. Beach high School and her educational journey culminated in an associate degree from Essex County Community College, paving the way for a fulfilling career. She retired as the Head Custodian for the Newark Board of Education, a role that she performed with dedication and pride.
Her unwavering faith was an integral part of her life. As a member of the Greater Shiloh Church, Emma actively participated in various church activities and was especially fond of her role in the Breathe of Praise Senior Choir. Her love for community extended beyond her church, and she was frequently involved in charitable endeavors.
Emma had many passion projects that brought immeasurable joy to her life. A green thumb by nature, she had a love for plants that blossomed alongside her many hobbies, which included crocheting, sewing, and baking. Her home was often filled with the warmth and sweetness of her creations.
Emma will be lovingly remembered for her kindness, nurturing spirit, and the profound love she shared with her family and friends. She leaves behind her brother, Joseph Freeman, and an extended family of relatives and friends who were touched by her generosity and grace.
As we celebrate the life of Emma Lou Freeman Mobley, let us carry forward her legacy of love, dedication, and community spirit. Though she is no longer with us, her memory will continue to inspire all who knew her.
