Oren Buie, affectionately known as “Bubba” and “Deacon Buie,” transitioned from this life on Sunday, April 5, 2026, at the age of 86. He passed away peacefully in the home of his daughter and son-in-law in Charlotte, North Carolina, surrounded by his loving family.
Oren was born on June 16, 1939, in Arlington, Georgia, to the late Lucille (Collier) Buie and Willie Mack Buie.
On August 23, 1962, Oren was united in holy matrimony to the love of his life, Betty Buie. Together, they shared 63 years of love, commitment, and partnership. He was a devoted husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother, and uncle.
Oren graduated from Kessler High School in Damascus, Georgia. After graduation, he relocated to Newark, New Jersey, where he furthered his education at Union Technical School in Union, New Jersey, becoming a skilled tool and die maker. He also attended Teterboro School of Aeronautics and R.E.T.S. Electronic School. Oren worked for Micro Stamping for many years, demonstrating dedication and craftsmanship in his trade.
At an early age, Oren accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and joined the Church of Christ in Blakely, Georgia. After moving to New Jersey, he became a member of Abyssinian Baptist Church in Newark. In 1989, Oren relocated to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and in 1990, he joined Second Baptist Church, where he remained a faithful and committed member until the Lord called him home.
Oren proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1962 to 1968, attaining the rank of Specialist Fourth Class (SP4).
He found great joy in fishing, hunting, and, most importantly, spending time with his family and friends.
Oren was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Shirley Buie; his parents, Lucille and Willie Mack Buie; and nine siblings: Joe D. Buie, Donnie Jean Buie, Maxine Buie (Keith), Emma Jean Shedrick (White), Millie Buie (Stokes), Cecil Hill, Audrey Buie, Valaria Buie (Gilbert), and Willie Mack Buie.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife, Betty Buie of Bethlehem; his daughter, Marie Byrd (Francis) of Charlotte, North Carolina; his grandchildren, Oren J. Buie (Rachel) of New York, Deja Byrd, and Francis Byrd III of Charlotte, North Carolina.
He is also survived by his siblings: Billy Buie (Arnita), Betty Smith, Evelyn Buie, Catherine Faye Monroe, and Evaline Buie; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
Homegoing services will take place on Saturday April 18th, 2026 at the Second Baptist Church of Bethlehem PA. Burial at Bethlehem Memorial Park will follow services at the church. The viewing will be from 10 am until the start of service, at 11 AM.
