Christian David van Horne, 55, of Bethlehem Township, Pennsylvania, passed away on June 19, 2026, at home surrounded by family.
Born to Allan van Horne and Jane Schug, Christian graduated from Easton Area High School in 1988. He grew up in Palmer Township but throughout his life he lived in Iceland and Florida before settling in Bethlehem Township.
Christian was fiercely independent and lived alone with his cherished Shiba Inu dogs, Bobafet and Caradune. Christian was a devoted son, brother, cousin, nephew, a beloved uncle, and a loyal friend. He is survived by parents Allan van Horne and Jane Schug and her partner Benedict Guiffre, his sister, Abby van Horne-Brett and her husband, Michael; his brother, Colin van Horne and wife; his nephew, Xander Brett; and nieces, Eva and Reagan van Horne, as well as beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins, and too many friends to name.
Before his illness Christian was a mechanic at FreshPet, and prior to that a mechanic at Albea. Known for his remarkable mechanical abilities, Christian could fix just about anything and was always willing to lend a helping hand to family and friends. His generosity knew no bounds, and he freely shared his time, talents, and resources. He enjoyed golfing, attending Corvette shows, baseball, Steelers football, and spending time with those he loved. Every year, he still helped the family transport a Christmas tree in his little green truck. Though often tough on the outside, those closest to him knew him as a man with a heart of gold—kind, dependable, and deeply caring.
Christian's life was marked by perseverance and quiet determination. In a testament to his dedication and work ethic, he received a promotion at work just one day before being diagnosed with terminal cancer. Throughout his battle with esophageal cancer, he faced every challenge with relentless courage, strength, and dignity, inspiring those who walked alongside him, adapting again and again, and befriending both medical staff and other patients. Even in death, Christian sought to help others through his decision to donate his body for medical research, reflecting his lifelong desire to make a difference in the lives of others.
Christian’s kindness, generosity, loyalty, and unwavering spirit will be remembered by all who knew and loved him. His memory will remain a lasting blessing to his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you do something kind, or make a donation in Christian’s memory to esophageal cancer research at https://salgi.org/donate/ or to support animals in need at https://lehighvalleyhumanesociety.org/memorial.
A memorial service to celebrate Christian's life will be held at a future date.
