Catherine L. Obey

Catherine L. "Cathy" Obey, affectionately known to family and friends as Cathy, departed this life peacefully on July 13, 2026, at her home in New Kensington, Pennsylvania, at the age of 67.

Born on December 8, 1958, at Citizens General Hospital in New Kensington, Pennsylvania, Cathy was the beloved daughter of the late Milton T. Obey Sr. and Hazel L. Obey.

A proud 1976 graduate of Lower Burrell High School, Cathy was a dedicated and hardworking woman who devoted her life to caring for her family. Throughout the years, she was employed by PPG (Pittsburgh Plate and Glass) and later served as a facilities manager overseeing housekeeping services at West Penn Hospital. She also held various other positions during her career, always working diligently to provide for those she loved.

Above all else, Cathy treasured her family. She leaves to cherish her loving memory her devoted daughter, Tahara Obey-Johnson; her beloved grandchildren, Archie Dennis IV of Murrysville, Briana Obey, Kiara Obey, Isaiah Acie, Zire Johnson, Xzavion Johnson, Treavion Johnson, and King Malik Johnson, all of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and her cherished great-grandchildren, Derrion Obey, Kaiya Obey, Naila Green, Daysean Woodson Jr., and Kamari Woodson, all of Pittsburgh.

She is also survived by her brothers, Milton Obey Jr. (Anita) of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Robert Evans Obey (Olivia) of Easton, Pennsylvania; her oldest living aunt, Betty J. Harris, of Trenton, New Jersey; her oldest living uncle, Seymore Ware, of Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania; along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.

Cathy was preceded in death by her parents, Milton T. Obey Sr. and Hazel L. Obey; her beloved daughter, Ivana Obey; and her sister, Terri M. Wickcliff, and brother-in-law, Gary Wickcliff.

Throughout her life, Cathy called Lower Burrell, Washington, D.C., and New Kensington, Pennsylvania, home. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and found great comfort in reading God's Word daily. She especially enjoyed expressing her faith through praise dance.

Known for her compassionate heart, Cathy loved helping others, particularly the residents of Ridge Avenue Senior Housing. She found joy in life's simple pleasures, including completing puzzles, creating arts and crafts, tending to her many plants with her remarkable green thumb, shopping—especially online—watching movies, and faithfully keeping up with her favorite soap operas, The Young and the Restless and Guiding Light. She also treasured her extensive collection of Bibles and enjoyed spending quiet moments studying Scripture.

Cathy will be remembered for her strength, kindness, unwavering love for her family, and generous spirit. Her legacy lives on through the many lives she touched with her compassion, encouragement, and enduring faith. Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in knowing that she now rests peacefully in the presence of her Lord and Savior.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday July 25th, 2026 from 11 am-1pm at 358 Ridge Avenue #100, New Kensington PA . The family requests that guests wear purple in celebration of Catherine.
